Merry Christmas

Hey Pixies!
So I give you all permission to slap my wrists and give me a good telling off!! I know it's been over two weeks since I last posted but what with stressful school work and chrimbo prep, I just really haven't found much time to update my little bloggeroo!

So anyway, this is just a post to say Merry Christmas! Here are a few photos of how I decorated my room for the festive period. I had many more and was going to do a DIY post, but never actually got round to it. So here are just a select few snaps to accompany the message (only because posts without pictures don't feel right to me!). Enjoy!!

So there's just a couple of ways in which I have tried to inject a little festivity into my bedroom!

I hope you all have a fantabulous Christmas and get everything you wished for!

Lots of love and thanks for reading as always!

My Favourite Shampoo & Conditioner for Coloured Hair

Hey Pixies
So another hair post today!
I've been dying my hair for a few years now, however previously, it has only been on the ends; also I have always either wanted to strip the colour after a bad job ( ;) ) or it has been bleached and hasn't needed to be protecting from fading.
Whereas now, for the first time, I have a dye over all of my hair. As my hair was virgin hair, I had to have a semi permanent dye and to be honest I would have opted for a semi-permanent anyway. Although, being semi-permanent, it means that it fades rapidly fast! So, despite the fact that they probably don't make a whole lot of difference, I was on the hunt for a colour holding/renewing shampoo - and as I am a poor student, a drugstore one!

Herbal Essences - Ignite my colour, vibrant colour shampoo & conditioner

I LOVE this shampoo & conditioner. I never believed the shampoos that claimed to 'hold colour' as I thought if it's a semi dye, it's going to fade fast and that's that. And although it does, these products have helped dramatically.
When I originally got my hair done I was using a TRESemme shampoo & conditioner. To be fair I didn't like it before, and the way it stripped a large quantity of my colour very quickly really sealed the deal with this product for me. It was not good. So after about 3 washes and it really fading my hair, I knew I needed to invest in a change.
So on one of my many wanderings in Boots I saw these Herbal Essences on offer and snapped them up. They were a real steal and have treated me so well. Since I have been using these I have seen a much more gradual fade rather than the STRIPPING that I got from TRESemme.
I don't think that the products 'ignited' my colour but it has definitely held the colour and made my hair very soft and shiny!

So yeah, overall I can only sing this product's praises. If you have coloured hair but don't want to spend a bomb on a really good shampoo & conditioner, then I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Have you dyed your hair? What shampoos do you like using?

Skincare Saviours

Hey Pixies
So as a teenager I get pretty bad skin, surprise surprise. But recently I've been really slacking with my skincare, I know it's bad but I just sometimes set it as a low priority when it should be the opposite.
So over the past couple of weeks I have been reaching for me 'ole faithful Liz Earle and have actually been shocked this time around.
So recently my skin has just been terrible, and I'm talking terrible! I'd get 2-3 new spots a day, and they'd take an age to go! So I took a few days off from makeup and used my Liz Earle routine religiously.

I start by using the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish to either remove my makeup in the evening or just cleanse in the morning. Then (only in the evening) I use the LE Instant Boost Skin Tonic as a toner. Then I use the LE Skin Repair Moisturiser and finally finish with, a new love, Clinique All About Eyes eye cream.

Then after doing this morning and night for about 3 days with no makeup (I've been stuck at home!) I found that already my skin was pretty clear - for me anyway. Any spots I'd had, had disappeared and no knew ones had come up! So I decided to go back to makeup. After a day of wearing my extremely heavy MAC Studio Fix, I had broken out again. So I decided to change my foundation to something kinder to my skin (foundation review coming on Sunday!) and so far so good!
I have never seen my skin so good and it is all thanks to this skincare. I have been a lover of Liz Earle for a long long time and this month I have just totally rekindled my love! I really recommend it for a good package skincare. I got all three on a deal back at the start of the summer and the toner and moisturiser are still going, however I have repurchased the holy grail Cleanse and Polish.
I like the toner but I don't know whether I'd shell out for a repurchase as I don't know how crucial it is to my routine.
The moisturiser however is just beautiful. It is so good over the winter when my skin is quite dry, it really rejuvenates and brings life back into my skin.
A new recent love to recover my eyes (please see last post) is the Clinique eye cream. It is so beautiful. It's done an amazing job at helping to bring my eyes back to life and is just a brilliant product - thanks mum!

So if you are looking for a simple, but great skincare routine - Liz Earle is your woman!

Have you used Liz Earle before? What's your favourite skincare for troubled skin?

Rimmel Exaggerate Undercover Eyeshadow Primer

Hey Pixies!
Sorry my schedules slipped again this week but I have just had a bit of a tough week but I'm hoping to get back on track.

So recently when in Boots with the best friend (who accidentally appears in the photobooth snaps in the background) we both noticed this this primer from Rimmel. Now I am always open to trying new primers, especially cheaper alternatives to my beloved UDPP!

So I started out with really high hopes for this primer as it looked and felt lovely in store, however I'm afraid that I have really been disappointed with this product.
It is a very thin primer and quite oily when first applied which I didn't really like as I felt it left my whole lid, up to my brow bone, oily and without foundation which I really dislike as a base for eyeshadow.
However, despite being oily at first I found that over the past couple of weeks it has really dried out my lids! It's taking some serious eye cream and moisturising to recover.
It also makes my shadow crease and patchy so it isn't that great at 'exaggerating' the shadows.
However the one thing I do like about this foundation is that it has an almost pearlescent look which is lovely when used with shimmer.
I don't want to be too down on this primer because my best friend also bought this and loves it. She finds that it is great at preventing fallout from even the most frustrating of eyeshadows.
Overall I was really unimpressed with this primer and as the first drugstore primer I've used I'm really disappointed! If anyone has any suggestions of good drugstore eye primers please let me know!!

Have you tried this primer? If so what did you think?

Winter Makeup: Smokey Eye and Burgundy Lip

Hey Pixies!
So I know I'm a day late, let's just move on!
So I thought I'd show you a look that I have recently fallen in love with for this time of year. You could say that the burgundy lip is quite Autumny however I feel that paired with a cooler toned, shimmery smokey eye, it really brings the look right into winter!

FACE

Revlon - Colour Stay
Benefit - Erase Paste
Collection - Lasting Perfection Concealer
Rimmel - Stay Matte Powder
Sleek - Contour Kit
Nars - Orgasm

EYES

Rimmel - Exaggerate Undercover Eye Primer
Urban Decay - Naked Basics Palette - Foxy, W.O.S, Naked 2, Crave
Clinique - Chocolate Chip
Urban Decay - Naked Palette - Hustle, Sin, Half Baked
Collection - Eyeliner Felt tip Pen
Maybelline - Gel Eyeliner

BROWS

Urban Decay - Naked Basics - Naked 2, Faint

LIPS

Revlon - Black Cherry Lipstick
Maxfactor - Bewitching Coral Lipstick

I hope you liked this post guys and that you like this makeup look and it's quite dramatic for me as I don't usually wear bold eyes and lips at the same time. However if you don't like the bright lips paired with the smokey eyes then a nude or pale lip would look just as nice. For example MAC Hue, Creme Cup or Topshop Nevada would look lovely!

So there you go! I hope you enjoyed!
What makeup looks are you enjoying for this winter?

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick - Forbidden Burgundy

Hey Pixies!
I am sticking to my schedule (Wednesdays and Sundays), it is still Wednesday night aha!

So when I got my GCSE results my Auntie kindly rewarded me with £20. So I decided to treat myself to something special that I would never usually buy myself. A gorgeous YSL lipstick. I saw this shade first in Chloe Morello's youtube channel and fell in love.

Sorry there's not a photo of me wearing the lipstick, every photo was really unrepresentative of the colour of the lipstick, even the hand swatch is pushing it! It is faaar more purple is real life!

So this lipstick is pure luxury! I decided to get it in this shade so it would be a definite 'special occasion' lippy! It is a very unique shade. It's extremely purple (despite the misrepresentation in the swatch photo) and very wintery!
It is so pigmented and very soft and moisturising on the lips and gives a glossy shine also. However it is not the most long lasting lipstick as it is so soft and moisturising, whereas I imagine if it was a very drying, matte shade it would probably last longer. Also I have barely used this lipstick and it has already gone down a fair bit in the bullet so I will bare that in mind if I ever choose to purchase another shade in the future that I will be more likely to wear on a regular basis as I feel the lipstick will not last all that long.

Overall I think this lipstick is quality and luxury and a prefect treat either for a present or just to reward yourself! I think that the retail price of around £20-24 is far too expensive for the quality that you receive, even though the quality is rather high. However for a special occasion, every now and again they are worth the indulgence; you definitely pay for the packaging - I mean look how gorgeous it is!!

Have you ever tried any YSL lipsticks? If so what do you think and are they worth the hefty price tag?

The Sweater Weather Tag

Hey Pixies!
So I know I'm being totally hopeless and doing a tag, which I know is a cop out (considering I haven't even been tagged by anyone!)
However I've had a rather hectic day and have not got around to taking any photos and whenever I take photos in the evening they come out terribly - please see previous posts - so this will have to do!

As it's rapidly getting colder and snuggly slippers seem to have a gravitational pull towards my tootsies, what better than the sweater weather tag! Let's get crack-a-lacking!!

Favourite Candle Scent?

Well until recently I was not allowed to burn candles of my own as I'm a rather clumsy being! But since my dear mother has let me enjoy the wonder of candles I've kind of gone a tad crazy!
I really dislike fruity scents or anything overly 'foody'. That being said I quite like sweet, floral and musty/spicy scents. I'm also a sucker for vanilla!!
Specifically I love both 'Christmas Cookie' (I know it's foody, but I love it!) and 'Christmas Eve' by Yankee Candle.

Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate?

Tea. Definitely. I don't really like coffee but I do love a good cosy hot chocolate however I couldn't live without tea and drink at least 2-3 cups a day!

What's the best Autumn memory you have?

Crisp country walks with the family or the first 'Starbucks day' when they bring out the christmas cups with my best friend Amy.

What makeup trend do you prefer: winged liner or dark lips?

Can't I pick both? I wear winged liner more often but I absolutely love rocking an autumnal burgundy lip. I usually wear them both together to be perfectly honest!

What do you want to be for Halloween?

Well I am hopeless at organisation with tags so Halloween has been and gone but I didn't do anything for it, I'm very sad I know! However I'd of liked to have gone as something alternative and not that scary - I loved all the Miley Cyrus tutorials that were floating around the blog and youtube scene.

Hats or Scarves?

Argh both again? Aha probably hats though, I do love my beanies! I've recently been loving THIS one from Next.

Most worn jumper?

Either a navy grandad one from a charity shop that is uber long, massive and cosy or THIS one (in peach) from Topshop if I'm feeling slightly more like making an effort!

Favourite Autumn Nail Polish?

Either Barry M - Raspberry or Essie - Luxedo

Skinny Jeans or Leggings?

Skinny jeans if I'm going out or leggings if I'm home or want to be comfy or cosy. Overall I think I'd say leggings. Specifically THESE - are they just not horrifically amazing?!

Boots or Uggs?

Boots definitely! I bought some ankle boots from River Island last week and have been living in them! I think I've just grown out of uggs, although we all know how I love my comfort!

So that's it guys, I know I'm so late but ah well, better late than never! Hope you enjoyed it and I tag ALL of you!

Snip snip, where's it all gone?

Hey Pixies!
So it feels like over the past few months everything's been changing. I've started sixth form, I started Youtube (link on the right!), I redesigned my blog and to top it all off I've cut off all my hair!
So as you may or may not know I've had ombre for about a year and few months and I was getting really bored, so decided to dye it a dark brown. Only this highlighted the massive problem of the fact that the ends of my hair were DEAD. So I decided to take the plunge and have the chop!

(If you like this makeup look, keep an eye out on my youtube channel as I just filmed a 'get ready with me' type thing on it. It will be up in a few weeks so if you'd like to see it make sure you subscribe!)

I am SO glad I did. Despite the fact that I can't shove it in a messy bun when I'm being lazy or the fact that the need for a scarf is now far more prevalent, I am loving having shorter hair!

It is so much healthier and feels so soft. It is ridiculously quick and easy to style and it also makes the colour I dyed it look a lot better.

Here are a few things I've been loving to style it:

After I have washed my hair I tend to use the L'Oreal Mythic Oil on the ends and generally through it. I then spray it all over with heat protectant before I blow-dry it. The one I've been using recently is the TRESemme one.

To gain volume before I blow-dry I tend to opt for either a mousse, this one is by VO5, or recently I've been quite liking the TRESemme 24 Hour Body, Root Boosting Spray. This just ensures that I get the most amount of volume possible from blow-drying it. I have also been falling back in love with the Batiste dry shampoo on second to third day hair as it really gives it a messy, voluminous, bed head look.

As far as styling it goes I've been loving this little barrel brush for blowdrying. When I had long hair I would use a bigger one but I love this one at the moment as it just seems like the perfect size. I tend to wear my hair curly most of the time now and the way I do this is with a hair straightener; these are Remington ones. I am really tempted to ask for GHDs for christmas but I don't know whether they are worth the large price tag when there are other things I would like, do you guys have any advice?

So that's it! I just fancied chatting to you guys about my new hair as it's really new and exciting for me. I am aware that some may not regard this as that short but for someone who's never had her hair shorter than below her shoulders, this was a big deal for me!

Are you considering a new hairstyle or have you had a major haircut recently?

REVIEW: Wet n Wild trios

Hey Pixies!
So my bestfriend went to New York a couple of weeks ago (yeah I was 'well jel' too!) and was so kind to bring me back two Wet n Wild trios.
I asked her to get me Autumny shades and my days did she do well! (LOVE YOU AMY!!)

So the first trio is in 'Silent Treatment'

I am literally in love with these trios and I love this one so much. It's great for the evening and the crease shade is so beautiful. It is so unusual and unlike any other shadow I have. It's a gorgeous deep brown with gold specks. This is definitely more of a night time trio and the shades are perfect for a bold eye to go with an autumnal burgundy lip.
I also love the way that Wet n Wild trios tell you wear to put the shadows, I know that sounds silly and it's usually always pretty obvious, but the shadows look so good if you put them exactly where they say to. I realise how much of a ridiculous point that is but it makes sense to me!

The second trio is in 'Knock on Wood'

So I love this trio too, I think these colours are, even though they are fairly dark and can be quite intense, more daytime shades. The two pinky colours really remind me of my Estee Lauder - Raisins and looks so good with the mid brown thrown into the mix! I think the pale pink is a little too dark to be placed on the brow bone as it advises, but looks really pretty in the inner corner all the same.

So overall guys I am loving these shadows for Autumn and am so grateful to my friend for bringing them into my life aha! They are so pigmented and blend really easily and I can't wait to try more!

Do you guys like Wet n Wild eyeshadows? If so what are your favourite shades, I'd love some recommendations!

Alternative Makeup Storage

Hey Pixies!

So today I thought I'd let you in on how I store my makeup. My collection grew out of makeup bags a long time ago and I struggle to fit it in my dressing table draws with my hair and other beauty things as well. I fear that even this is beginning to overflow but I keep the makeup I don't use very often in a small plastic box in my wardrobe; but most of my collection is stored in this way. I thought about getting those plastic containers/draws or storing it a lot more practically like a lot of bloggers do but this way goes with the decor of my room much better and I really love it.

So in the summer my Mum  and I went on a weekend away to a little town called Skipton in Yorkshire; whilst we were looking round all the quaint, individual shops we spotted these gorgeous shelves (there are some really similar on both Ebay and Amazon if you're interested). In the same vintage, shabby chic themed shop were the yellow and pink baskets which are lined with a sort of polythene which makes them perfect for storing makeup.

I also find it really cute to store my brushes in old jars with ribbon (that seems to have escaped - what a mystery!). The two smaller jars are just old washed out jam jars but the larger one is from Ikea - I needed a shallow wide jar for my bigger face brushes - jam doesn't tend to be stored in jars like that!

I keep my nail varnishes on these shelves as well, this cute basket thing (technical term) is from BHS and fits perfectly on this shelf.

I keep my lipstick in this cute wicker basket/tin on top of all my Vogues. I was lucky enough to be bought a Vogue subscription for my birthday, it's my favourite magazine (you can't beat a classic!) and I just love displaying them in this way.

So finally I just love the warmth that candles both look and emit, so my shelves wouldn't be complete with out one. I absolutely love this candle holder I got from Dunelm Mill the other day as well. It was only £1.99 and just looks so gorgeous with a lit candle in. The little box is where I keep most of my most worn earrings, I got it from an individual shop in a designer outlet near where I live and I just think its so cute.

So that's it guys! I am absolutely loving storing my makeup this way recently and just thought I'd share!
How do you guys store your makeup?

Autumn Wishlist

Hey Pixies!

So what d'ya think of my new blog design? Took me forevr so you better like it haha!

So I do a LOT of surfing the web, specifically on clothes and makeup sites and so today I thought I'd show you a few things that have caught my eye recently!

American Apparel Thigh High Socks - Grey
I have wanted a pair of these socks for so long as I think they are so lush, especially for autumn time. It can get a bit boing wearing tights all the time so adding a pair of high socks adds an edge to an outfit.  I especially think these grey ones would look amazing with a tartan skater skirt.

MAC Sumptuous Olive Eyeshadow
I find it so frustrating when bloggers constantly talk about the endless shades that look great with blue eyes as it seems most colours, especially neutral everyday ones, really make them stand out. Although I have brown eyes and therefore find it really difficult to find a colour that makes my eyes 'pop' (for want of a better word). So when I saw The Persian Babe talking about this one I fell in love. It's a really gorgeous neutral green that really compliments brown eyes - I definitely need it in my life.

Topshop Lipstick - Hazard
I love the look of this lipstick! I am a sucker for red lipstick and this is a gorgeous deep, rich autumnal red which I just think looks gorgeous!

ASOS Velvet Slipper Shoe
I was scrolling through the shoes on asos trying to find some ankle boots and stumbled across these! I love velvet ant you can't beat a loafer right? The burgundy colour is great for this time of year as is the velvet I just think they're a slightly trendy twist on an everyday dolly! Plus they say slipper shoe, is there anything better than wearing practically slippers out and about?

NARS Seduction Blush
This blush looks quite scary but I just love autumn makeup and I especially love the dark blush that comes out, it just adds warmth and festiveness to everyday makeup - if that's possible!

So there are a few things that I've got my eye on for Autumn!
What are some trends that you've been loving for autumn?

Um...

Hey Pixies!

So I've been absent from the world of blogging for nearly 5 months!! And I know I shouldn't make excuses but my life has been a tad manic! During the start of summer I was doing my GCSEs (a right barrel of laughs as you can imagine!), then I went on holiday shortly after and then for the rest of the summer have been cramming in as much socialising and much needed down time after exam stress as I possibly can!

To be completely honest I was so tempted just to jack all of this in as I really thought blogging wasn't for me and thought I was pretty (for want of a better word) shit at it!

But then I remembered that this itsy bitsy space of internet is all mine to do whatever I want with so really it's impossible to be shit right?

So I am really planning to put so much more into it now and learn to love it! With a little help from my best friend Amy I hope to give it a wee makeover, which I'm hoping will motivate me to create lots of decent content, which is always a good thing eh?

Oh and one more thing - I am currently in the process of uploading my first Youtube video.... Ah! For a New Years resolution you can tell I'm really up to date! Ha cut me some slack I have had a rather busy year! I won't link it yet as I'm going to give it a bit of time but eek how scary!!

REVIEW: Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Duo - Raisins

Hey Pixies!

So since our last chat I have turned the wonderful age of 16! I really didn't want to be 16 as it means I actually have to get a job and do grown up things now!
But one of the pros of having a birthday is of course the presents! I have been so lucky to have received so many wonderful gifts, I have not have one 'oh god just smile and pretend you like it!' so that's got to be some kind of miracle!
But one of my amazing gifts was this beautiful Estee Lauder eyeshadow duo (I know!) from my two friends Anna and Annie. I think I may have actually squealed when I opened it!

Ok so let's just start by saying it's AMAZING! I think I may be in love! The colours are just gorgeous and just go so well together and with so many other colours.
The colours are a light shimmery pink and a purple/brown. Although you could think that the darker one may be difficult to wear it looks surprisingly great and can be layered or blended out to give just a hint of colour.
As you can see from the swatches, they are unbelievably pigmented and go onto the lid just as pigmented. I know that sounds silly but sometimes a swatch can come off very different to how the colour appears on the lid.
They are also amazingly creamy for powder and blend like a dream. It is so easy to get a really gorgeous looking blended out look with these shadows.
You can definitely feel the quality and they are the the best eyeshadows I have ever used, they even trump my Naked Palette shadows!

So there was my quick review on the Raisins Eyeshadow Duo. I received quite a few makeup pieces for my birthday so a few more reviews may be coming up! Oh and current favourites is on the way but I had these photos ready and you should know how lazy I am!

Thanks for Reading!x

Soap and Glory Haul

Hey Pixies!

So this weekend I made one of my far too regular journeys to Boots because I was in desperate need of a new scrub. Of course I went straight to Soap and Glory! But, because I have the worst level of will power ever, I of course didn't only leave with a scrub!

Flake Away - £7.00

Hand Maid - £2.50

Glad Hair Day Conditioner - £2.50

Butter Yourself - FREE (I know!)

Flake Away

Flake Away is an old and cherished favourite of mine, and pretty much every other blogger and human being in Britain! It is the best scrub I have ever used and never fails to leave my legs feeling baby soft, and perfect for pre fake tanning!

Hand Maid

I've never really been a fan of anti bacterial gel. I mean obviously it is a great invention and is a perfect handbag essential, but I am never fond of the scents and (as a shameful thumbsucker - don't judge me!) the taste of most gels. However I thought I'd have a go at this one as it is highly raved about and smells amazing! It's great for school and so far I'm loving it!

Glad Hair Day Conditioner

So basically, bleach is bitch! Looks great, but is indeed a bitch. I've been using some Tresemme shampoo and conditioner recently and not been loving it I'm afraid to say. So when I saw this little sample of conditioner I thought I'd give it a go and if it turned out well I'd buy the full sized jobby! I've only used it once but so far so good!

Butter Yourself

Finally the freebee! So the reason I bought the two little things were because at the moment, to launch their new body lotion, boots have been giving a free Butter Yourself when you spend £10! It's worth £10.50 so it is so worth it! And it is AMAZING!! It's so gorgeous and the fact that I got it for free is just the shizzle (word used ironically I promise!!)

So there you have it that concludes my little haul! Current favourites coming soon!!

London Haul

Hey Pixies!

So last weekend I took a wee trip to London with some friends for my friends Amy's birthday!!
I bought a few goodies, so I thought that I'd share them with you!

First of all we went to MAC, where I picked up the Studio Sculpt Foundation in shade NW20.

I've been wanting this foundation for so long, I got a sample of it in the summer and really loved it so I thought that I would take the plunge and purchase! I am really loving it so far. It's gell-based so a little goes a really long way. If you would like me to do a full review let me know as I would be more than happy to!

Then we stopped of at Forever 21. I have been wanting some statement necklaces for a while and Forever 21 is just the place to find them as their jewellery is gorgeous and so reasonably priced!

I really love all of these as I just think that they will add a little something to even the most boring of outfits! The tusk necklace looks great under collars and the chunkier and larger necklaces look great over jumpers and plain baggy tees.

Last of all we dropped by Topshop of course, where I couldn't resist grabbing a few things - I am a sucker for Topshop ;)

So this was all I got clothes wise! You can't really tell in the light of the photo but the cropped jumper is actually a really vibrant mint green! It's gorgeous and I am absolutely in love with the brand new Joni jeans! They fit like a glove and a really super high-waisted! My friend and I call them Monica jeans as they remind us of the type if 90s jeans that Monica lived in during the early seasons of Friends! (we're not addicted to Friends or anything!)

That's all I got from the clothes sections but I did pick up a couple of lipsticks!

I grabbed myself shades Saint and Rio Rio. I have been after a replacement for my beloved Hue by MAC for a while as mine is very nearly done! I was going to grab another at the MAC store but decided against it as my birthday is coming up! So I was delighted when in Topshop I came across Saint (which I'd never heard of before). I was over the moon as it is an almost exact dupe! So if there's anyone out there who wants to try Hue but isn't sure whether they want to spend £14 on  lipstick - head to Topshop and get Saint!
I fancied a couple of new lipsticks and I thought I'd pick two completely different ones so I went for a bright red! I bought Ruby Woo in the summer but I find it quite a pinky red and very drying on my already broken lips!! I love the trueness of Rio Rio and I thought that, although it is very matte, it would be a tad more moisturising!!

So that concludes my London haul! I really hope you enjoyed it!
